King Kong VW Ad
Here’s a pretty cool ad that was created for Volkswagen’s long-running “small but tough” campaign for the Polo. The creative has won many advertising awards, such as the Advertising Creative Circle Award for best portrait poster

King Kong #3 on Hollywood Stock Exchange
King Kong is currently ranked #3 on the Hollywood Stock Exchange “Biggest Market Cap” films. You can see the latest list on this page. For those of you who don’t know, HSX is a virtual stock exchange for shares in movies and celebrities. The price of a movie “stock” reflects how much money traders think the film will make domestically in its first four weeks of wide release at the box office.

King Kong (KKONG), which had its IPO on HXS back in January 2003, is currently trading at $168.08. HSX states that on average, a film makes 2.8 times its opening weekend box office during its first four weeks of wide release. So, HSX is currently projecting King Kong to make roughly $60 million its opening weekend.
By way of comparison (all number are inflation adjusted): the original King Kong-1933 made a total of $23 million during its entire run, the 1976 King Kong made $24 million its opening weekend on just 974 screen, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring made $71 million its opening weekend on 3,359 screens.

According to Reuters: “Director Peter Jackson, at work on his own remake of “King Kong,” is helping produce bonus materials for the DVD debut of the 1933 original….One part of the documentary focuses on the mysterious “spider pit” sequence deleted from the film before its theatrical premiere in New York and Los Angeles.
“For years, there has always been speculation, does this footage exist, so we have a piece that actually explains what it was and we do a recreation of it,” Feltenstein said. “For fans of the film, that’s a big, important thing.” Read More
